Many themes are explored and finally around the 16 min mark Jerry decides he'll sing. I always imagine the feeling of seeing Jerry sing "Dark Star Crashes" and I usually get goosebumps. The Eyes is a little sloppy, but the risks are worth it. Certainly worth the D/L (stream). There is a long stretch where Bobby and Jerry are just friggling away on top of Bill and Phil's percolating rhythms ... Keith comes in towards the end of the jam and does just enough to spill a few drops of spiked coffee over the edge of the cup. Then a very brief Billy solo and an unambiguous restart, directly into the first verse of the song! Following that there is some extended ugliness of the "let's all take a bad trip together" variety at which the Dead excelled (I think this time it was intentional, at least) ... Another review said the EYES was sloppy ... I don't think so. And bedides it transitions into a CHINA DOLL that is among the most confidently played versions ever (includes Billy's high hat, Weirs juicy phased effects, and -- above all -- Garcia's one-in-a-trillion vocal chords ... god fxkin damn... The China Cat explodes just like you'd expect, including a muffed up 'Downward Jam' (curse it not worth it, who came up that garbage in the first place?!?!) but it it's all redeemed when Jerry sings his headlight verses Rider.
